The 2009 Lenten Project raised a record total of £16,000. Among the successful events organised were a Quiz Night, Jazz & Dinner Evening, Bridge Afternoon. UCM Bring & Buy Sale and Golf Day. Many contributions came from the second collections after all Sunday Masses throughout Lent.
Fr Tom also issued a 'Lenten Challenge' to involve the widest possible number of parishioners. This was based on the Parable of the Talents and envelopes were given to anyone interested in participating. The envelopes contained various amounts of money, which the recipients were encouraged to take and multiply in whatever way they wanted. The Parish Magazine has an article about all the enterprising ideas that were used to raise £4,139.
Charities suggested by Parishioners and supported this year were:
Missionary Community of Corpus Christi - Cambodia;
Thames Hospicecare;
CAFOD;
Thai Children's Trust (formerly The Pattaya Orphanage Trust;
Sr Mary Sweeney Charity - Sierra Leone.
Letters of thanks from the charities are displayed on the noticeboards in the Parish Centre.
