WELCOME TO PARENTS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

"What can I do? I want to come to Mass with the children, but they are so restless and fidgety."

This complaint could possibly be echoed by many parents. We should like to re-assure you first of all that we do understand the problem and we are only too happy to see you making the effort to bring the children to Mass - please keep on coming!

Every Sunday during term-time, at the 10.45a.m. Mass, we try to help by providing a way of involving the children more. This is through the CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD and the FAMILY MASS.

At the Children's Liturgy of the Word, children between the ages of three and ten years are invited to go into the Parish Centre immediately after the opening hymn. Here they are divided into three groups, the Pre-School Group, the Infants Group and the Junior Group. There are at least two Catechists with each group. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children if they wish.

The children learn, in a way which is meaningful for their specific age group, the message of the Gospel their parents are hearing in church. After the Bidding Prayers, the children rejoin their parents in church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The Family Mass is primarily to help those children preparing to make their First Holy Communion, but every child is involved.

These special Masses are available to help you help your child grow to know and love the Eucharist. We need your help and support. If you are able to help with the Children's Liturgy of the Word - a commitment of once a month, or possibly only once every six weeks if we have enough volunteers - please ring Sr Eileen on 01628 419671.

If, for any reason, you have difficulties bringing your family to Mass, please let us know so that we can discuss ways to help. Please ring Robert Bell on 01628-629181.

MOTHERS WITH TODDLERS:

The Mother & Toddler Group, 'Busteroonies', meets every Monday from 10.30 to 12 noon in the St Joseph's Hall in the Parish Centre. All welcome.

Children's Liturgy

Children's Liturgy is for youngsters between the ages of three and eleven. Children's Liturgy is essentially Liturgy, that is worship not catechesis or learning. It takes place in the Parish Centre at the same time as the adults' Liturgy of the Word.

We have three separate age groups, pre-school, infants and juniors, where the Sunday Gospel is opened to the children in a way that is meaningful to them. there are over twenty catechists, but we would welcome anyone, especially men, who feel they could help. You are never on your own and would not be needed more than ten times a year. Handouts for each Sunday are available - why not encourage your children to join us or come in yourselves? Leaflets with information are available at all entrances to the churches.

Contact us stating with which age group you would prefer to work. You will be introduced to the rest of the team and help will be given in preparing liturgies.
