MAIDENHEAD CARE - a registered charity, supported by Churches Together in Maidenhead, providing neighbourly help for the people of Maidenhead still requires a representative from our parish. If you are interested, please contact the Parish Office.

LINEN ORGANISER:  We are still looking for someone to take over the organisation of the Church linen.  If you feel you are able to help, please contact the Parish Office. 

THE OFFERTORY COLLECTION last weekend was £1072.16. Thank you.

PORTSMOUTH PEOPLE:  The latest edition of the Portsmouth People, the magazine for our diocese, is now available.  Please take a copy home with you.

MAIDENHEAD FOODSHARE: This initiative is currently feeding 20 families on a weekly basis. All are in severe poverty and a couple are suffering malnutrition because they are feeding their children rather than themselves, and even then, there are times when the children are hungry as well. Foodshare desperately needs more food donations as supplies are running out.  A tin a week from everyone who attends church in Maidenhead will ensure these families can be fed, and also that food parcels can be given  to many more.  Donations of food can be handed in to St Joseph’s at the Open Kitchen in the Parish Centre on Thursday evenings; to Quench ( 19 Queen St); to the Maidenhead Advertiser (Bell St) or to the Co-Op Funeral Directors ( 27 High St). HOW TO REACH NON CHURCH-GOING CATHOLICS?: "Crossing the Threshold" - a resource day for parishes will be held on Saturday 3 March at the  Christian Education Centre, Crawley from 10.00am - 4.30pm.  See notice board for further details - application forms are available from the Parish office.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS: If you are celebrating a significant wedding anniversary this year - 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th and 60+ - you are invited to a special Mass on Saturday 16 June at St Bede's, Basingstoke. Please contact our own parish office for details.

PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES: The Catholic Association Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 24 August - 31 August.  Contact the parish office for details.

THE CATENIANS: The January meeting of Maidenhead Circle will take place in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 25 January commencing at 7.30pm.

SAFEGUARDING COURSES: More people are needed to register for the Safeguarding Courses for children and vulnerable adults to be held in the parish on Saturday 4 February. If you are a volunteer with Children's Liturgy, First Communion preparation or are a Eucharistic Minister taking communion to the sick and housebound you are obliged by Portsmouth Diocese  to attend safeguarding courses every three years. MAIDENHEAD CARE:  After many years of being St Joseph’s representative in Maidenhead Care, Cathy Barton is now standing down.  Cathy has done a sterling job and will be very much missed — we are very appreciative of her work over the years.    Thank you Cathy.  If you would like to be our parish representative in Maidenhead Care, please contact the Parish Office.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY: Churches Together in Maidenhead invites you to join in The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity  which started last  Wednesday and concludes on Wednesday 25 January.   Mid-day services continue this week at 12.30pm on  Monday 23  and Tuesday 25 January.  Evening service this week is on Tuesday 24 January at 8.00pm. All services are being  held at the High Street Methodist Church.  Afternoon services are followed by a light lunch.   There will also be a United Service at St Luke's Church, Norfolk Road at 6.00pm this Sunday 22 January. Further information can be found on the noticeboards.

BECOMING A FOSTER CARER IN THE BOROUGH: Would you like to find out more about being a foster carer?  On Tuesday 24 January, you are invited to come and meet local foster carers and quiz them about the fantastic work they do keeping children safe in our Borough.  This is an informal opportunity to chat about foster care over a cup of tea.  Information packs and other reading material will be available to take away.  No need to book—just come along!  Fostering Information Evening: Tuesday 24 January, Town Hall, Maidenhead  from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.  See you there!  For further information, please contact the Fostering Team on 01628 683 201.

201 CLUB: Following a very large loss of membership this year, it has been decided to bring the parish 201 Club to an end.  Our thanks to those members who have contributed to the Club’s success over the many years of its existence.

PLEASE PRAY for the repose of the soul of Francis Luttrell and of Josephine Gallier who died recently.  The Requiem Mass for Josephine Gallier will take place at 10.00am on Thursday 12 January.  The funeral of Francis Luttrell has already taken place.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY: Thank you to Katy Hardman for her fantastic organisation of the Nativity scenes on Christmas Eve, and to all the children who took part (and to their Mums for the brilliant costumes!).  We welcome the children back during the 10.45am Mass this Sunday 8 January for the Spring Term.  Would the Liturgists please pick up their rotas from the filing cabinet.

HAVE YOU MADE YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS YET?! Could this be the year that you help the parish children? We are now getting desperate for someone to be our Registration Co-Ordinator—a kind person or two to keep the registers up-to-date and to organise the wonderful team who take the names of the children each week.  Or, perhaps you could help the Liturgists, or take the register once or twice a term?  Please contact Tricia Weeks on 627265 for further details. ST MARY’S PRIMARY SCHOOL:  We are full in every year group with waiting lists.  If you have a child, know of a family member or a neighbour with a child who has a birth date between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 they need to apply now to the Borough and make sure that the school office has a completed supplementary information form.  This will ensure that the child is placed in the correct category for admissions. Late applicants, including siblings, who do not apply are at significant risk of not getting a place.
