Golden Merits

Amy Samber    Saffron Minter              Simondeep Sandhu       Harry Moreland

Each week every class has a star, someone who has shone in their work during the previous week. Sometimes the star is given for achievement in a particular activity and at other times for an outstanding attitude, approach or attention to detail.

Merits are awarded to children who reflect, through their behaviour and attitude, the ethos of our school community where other people and property are treated with respect and each action is such that it can be offered to the glory of God. When a child has six merits they receive a golden merit.

Merits and starts are awarded at merit assembly on Thursday and celebrated in the newsletter and on the achievements board in the main entrance.

Football:  I am so proud of our junior children for their fantastic efforts in recent football tournaments.

Year 6 Cup – Wednesday 22nd April at Courthouse School

A squad of 9 year 6 children, 6 boys and 3 girls, won their group and beat Woodlands Park in the quarter finals (1:1 after extra time and 10-9 on penalties which was nerve racking for everyone). They lost 1:0 in the semi-finals but had really acquitted themselves well both on the field and with the way they represented St Mary’s. Thank you also to the huge number of parents and siblings who came along to support the team.

Year 3\4 Friendly Tournament Thursday 23rd April at Ellington School

Our year 3\4 team played two friendly games against All Saints and Ellington. They performed really well with their football and their attitude and behaviour. They drew the first game 1:1 against Ellington and lost 3:1 to All Saints. Both results were very good as the children had only had two sessions of training. It was excellent to see so many families there to support the boys and girls.

Thank you to Mr. Weller and Miss McDonald for training and managing the squad for this event.

Summer Lunches: From 5th May to the end of the summer term there will be an additional option to the two hot lunches. A cold picnic packed lunch bag consisting of a wholemeal sandwich with a choice of four fillings, crudities, fruit selection and homemade cake, cookie or flapjack. The fillings are ham and salad, egg mayonnaise, cheese or tuna mayonnaise. The lunch bags are made to order each day so will be chosen at the start of the day as are the hot options.

The price of the picnic lunch is the same as that of the hot meal, £2 per day and payment is made in the usual manner. As with all the meals served in school the lunch provides a healthy balanced meal.

COMMUNITY

Eco Club Plant Sale: Our very enthusiastic leader, Verona is holding a plant sale on Wednesday 6th May after school and asks if anyone has any seedlings or plants they are able to donate she would be very grateful.  There will be many different plants available including pumpkins, courgettes and flowers.  Do come along and support the children.

Flora Cooking with Schools: Please do continue to send in tokens (or register them online www.cookingwithschools.com). The equipment we receive from this scheme is excellent and allows the children to have the opportunity to cook.

CAFOD Lenten Fund Raising:  Just to let you know that the total to date is a fantastic £2,686.14 which is an amazing amount especially considering the current financial situation.  If there is any outstanding sponsor money to be handed in or collected could we ask this to be done by the end of the week if possible please and then a cheque will be sent direct to Cafod.  Many thanks for all your wonderful efforts.
