Please contact Robert with any questions YOUTH CLUB DIARYSome time in 2001 - Parish Activities Fayre. The "Youth" are consulted about what they want. Basically it can be summarised by "something to do"! Later in 2001 - PPC sets up a Youth Working Group, and a number of ad hoc events are arranged Autumn 2003 - An offer is made to run a Youth Club when it becomes apparent that the ad hoc events aren't exactly going at full speed - but this is delayed until September 2004 for family health reasons. The biggest problem now seems to be storage Winter 2003/4 - The "club" acquires a mini-snooker table and a Playstation. Hurrah! Something to do at last. Spring 2004 - The Youth Club is first advertised - and more people volunteer to help with the running! Sept 12 2004 - We're off! The first Youth Club night. 10 people (5 boys, 5 girls) come along - plus 4 helpers. That's enough to make the club viable, and there are promises of more next time. Age range is 9 to 16 - quite a range, but everyone seems to get on fine. The Subbuteo football is the first real casualty - as two goalkeeper's are broken! Scalextric is quite a hit, with the girls dominating the best times - well done Bea, Ashleigh and Alice - but watch out, as Kit was improving all the time. The boys bring their own games for the Playstation, and supply the music. Sept 14 2004 - The PPC want to carry on their Youth Working Party in the parish, to help set-up other youth events. There is a suggestion that these meetings take place at the Youth Club - in the kitchen! That way, people who come along to these meetings can help serve drinks, but also speak to real young people about their ideas Sept 14 2004 - A quick decision is made that the Subbuteo will not work, and an order is placed for a table-tennis table instead. It's more a table-top rather than a table - we have insufficient funds and insufficient storage space for a proper one - but it will certainly be fun Oct 10 2004 - The second Youth Club evening sees the hoped for rise in numbers from 10 to 15. A good mix of boys and girls, and ages. It also sees the launch of the SJYC Newsletter Oct 11 2004 - Hmmm..... Carolyn Bell has got herself a job which involves working on Sunday evenings - which means that Robert is faced with child-minding issues! Is this the first threat to the club? Oct 13 2004 - A Spirograph set is donated to the Youth Club - which prompts the idea of a games and activities box, featuring things which aren't always out, but people can grab as they wish Dec 9 2004 - We got a few more small games at the Parish bazaar - which I guess is good. The December club will be a Christmas Celebration. Mince pies, Hot dogs and Christmas Crafts. Should be fun. Hopefully Carolyn will not be working on Sunday's after this one, so it will mean that supervising the club will not be such an issue. A huge thanks to everyone in the parish for the many donations for the crafts Feb 2005 - Junior Youth Club for St.Mary's School. Good fun, but rather mad! We'll ahve to consider the format if we're going to run this in future Apr 2005 -Youth Club going well. Survey taken to see what people want to do if they really had the chance. Thoughts about linking up with others in the Deanery and also havign a Confirmation Special |
